10 Top Exercises To Do With Your Dog

Milly Jones July 27, 2023

Incorporating your dog into your exercise routine is a great way to bond and stay active together. Here are ten top exercises you can do with your dog:

#1. Walking/Running:

Going for regular walks or runs with your dog is an excellent cardio exercise for both of you. It helps maintain a healthy weight, improves cardiovascular health, and provides mental stimulation for your furry companion.

#2. Playing Fetch:

Playing fetch is an engaging way to keep your dog moving and improve their agility. You can use a ball, frisbee, or any other dog-safe toy for this activity.

#3. Hiking:

If you enjoy hiking, bring your dog along. Hiking provides a challenging workout and allows your dog to explore nature’s scents and sights.

#4. Agility Training:

Set up a mini agility course in your backyard or a nearby park using obstacles like tunnels, hurdles, and weave poles. This helps improve your dog’s coordination and mental alertness.

#5. Swimming:

Swimming is a low-impact exercise that is gentle on joints and muscles. If your dog enjoys the water, take them to a dog-friendly beach or swimming pool for some fun splashing around.

#6. Dog Yoga (Doga):

Doga involves practicing yoga with your dog. While you perform your yoga poses, your dog can be involved by stretching alongside you or being gently massaged.

#7. Tug of War:

Engaging in a controlled game of tug of war with a dog toy is an excellent way to build their strength and your upper body strength too.

#8. Cycling:

If you have a well-trained dog that can run alongside you safely, cycling can be a fun exercise for both of you. Make sure to use a proper dog leash attachment for safety.

#9. Stair Climbing:

If you have access to stairs, use them for a good cardio workout. You can walk or jog up and down while your dog follows along.

#10. Hide and Seek:

Play a game of hide and seek with your dog indoors or in your backyard. This stimulates their mental faculties and keeps them physically active.

Remember to consider your dog’s age, breed, and fitness level when engaging in these activities. Always consult your veterinarian if you have any concerns about your dog’s ability to participate in certain exercises. The key is to have fun and enjoy quality time with your furry friend while staying active together.
