A Dog Battling Cancer Gets To Tour The Town By Riding In A Wagon

A Dog Battling Cancer Gets To Tour The Town By Riding In A Wagon

Couple Allison and Joey Maxwell have owned Maverick for more than eight years. When he joined them, he was a young puppy, and he quickly became the main focus of their lives. And when Maverick became a senior dog, the couple still saw their beloved golden retriever as their adorable puppy.

According to the pair, Maverick loves getting affection and that is not difficult to give to him because he is easy to love. He is also so friendly and kind that people cannot help but fall in love with him.

Their world collapsed when they learned that his cancer had returned and there was nothing they could do. However, this did not bring them down.

Maverick was diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of nine. His owners did not want him to succumb without a fight, so they had him undergo chemotherapy and therapy. The cancer cells vanished but they returned with a fury.

After having to stay in the hospital for some time, the physicians informed Joey and Allison that nothing else could be done this time around. They advised the couple to bring the dog back home and administer home care, as he only had a number days to live – and so they did.

After returning home, the couple had a conversation and they resolved not to hang around feeling miserable and awaiting the inevitable. They wish to commemorate Maverick’s life and provide him with one final memorable day.

At that point, the senior dog was too sick and frail to move independently. Therefore, they got him a huge wagon that they could pull. Initially, they were unable to find one that would fit him, but a store manager assisted them in their search and they were able to get the right one.

The dog was then placed on the wagon along with his memory foam and favorite toy. Maverick was dragged throughout the city on his wagon, and he ate dog-friendly ice cream and a cheeseburger. But most importantly, everyone came to pet him and gave him lots of love.

Amazingly, this brief excursion made the dog feel so loved that he began to feel better days later. The duration of his remaining days was extended to four months and ended when he died calmly in his sleep one night.
