Sally Rewehooeern has gone through a lot of storms in her life. And while losing a beloved husband and living in loneliness are significant challenges for her, she remains firm and endures these tests every day.
In 1953, she came to the United States to start a new life, and fortunately, she found a haven and found a good life there. Now, at 92 years old, Sally is living a quiet life. But even though she has managed to survive the past challenges in her life, the feeling of loneliness still lingers on her.
Since her children are now in distant and different places, her hopes of seeing them again are now slim. But it seems that her longing for companionship would not come from her children anymore, but from someone she would not even expect — a dog.
It all started when a fluffy dog had suddenly ”trespassed” in her backyard. But since the dog was not a troublemaker, Sally gladly welcomed and allowed the dog to roam around the house. Sally felt an instant connection with the dog, and the dog immediately warmed up to her.
It seems that Sally’s ability to make a connection with a dog wasn’t accidental but a natural ability of hers. It turns out that as a little girl, Sally lived on a farm in Holland surrounded by dogs; that’s why her skills to communicate with them were developed and honed. And it is amazing that, at her current age, this ability hasn’t faded in her.
With the surprise visit that the dog suddenly gave, Sally wondered where this dog came from, and it turns out that it was not a stray dog but a dog of her acquaintance.
She discovered that the dog’s name is Brody, a 15-week-old dog. His family brought Brody after their Saint Bernard had passed away. And they were devastated to know that Brody had escaped from their home; losing another dog after their Sant Bernard is certainly painful for them.
Eventually, they were comforted to know that Brody ended up in Sally’s home, which they know would receive a gentle and caring treatment for her. And it turns out to really be a blessing in disguise for Sally as she shared that Brody had given her refreshing happiness that she hasn’t felt for years.
