Denise McCurrie is a New York resident who lives alone with her six-year-old Schnauzer named Roscoe. The two have been really inseparable ever since the dog was a small puppy. Because the pet owner suffers from anxiety and depression, her pooch became her emotional support animal.
One day, Denise had a mental breakdown and called 911. When the emergency responders arrived, she asked them if they could help her dog find a place to stay while she was at the hospital. They agreed and got the local cops to get the dog. While the distressed lady was taken to the hospital, Roscoe was brought to the city’s animal shelter.
Unbeknownst to the 51-year-old woman, the shelter has had issues involving euthanasia and neglect.
Without consent
At the hospital, doctors were able to calm Denise down and get her stable. But, she couldn’t get her pet off of her mind. She called several times, and she was assured that Roscoe was doing fine. But then, a few days after her breakdown, she received alarming information.
A staff member of the local shelter said that Roscoe had been adopted by one of the animal rescue groups with ties to their office. The dog already had a new name, and she couldn’t get him back anymore. She asked why they did it, but they didn’t give much information or explanation.
Fighting for her pet
She called everyone that she could to figure out what happened. Eventually, she learned that the officers said Roscoe was not in good condition. But aside from an ear infection, vet records show that the pooch was healthy. Plus, the dog was getting treated for the illness, proving that Denise was giving her pup good care.
Denise said it is a tragedy that something like this could happen to a single woman who had been hospitalized. She needs her dog now more than ever. She is willing to do anything to get her beloved dog back. She continues to fight to make this happen.
