Derrick Nnadi, defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs of National Football League, celebrated his Super Bowl win with some furry, four-legged friends.
Thanks to Nnadi, every dog at the KC Pet Project animal shelter is free to adopt. He paid off the adoption fees for more than 100 dogs.

According to Nnadi, all his life, he always wanted a dog. Growing up, he didn’t have any pets because his parents didn’t allow pets at home.
When he was going into his senior year at college, Nnadi got his first-ever dog and named him Rocky. His love for his dog inspired him to help other animals.
Nnadi said that when he first got Rocky, the dog was very timid, and it made him think of how other animals in the shelter are feeling scared and alone.
That’s why in his second year in the NFL, he partnered with a non-profit animal shelter in Kansas City, Missouri, called KC Pet Project through the Derrick Nnadi Foundation. Every time his team wins this season, he would pay for a dog’s adoption fee.
Including the post-season, the Chiefs won 15 times in the league.

It seemed like Nnadi is meant to help more dogs in the shelter because the Chiefs made the Super Bowl. He pledged that if his team won, he would pay for every dog’s adoption fee. The shelter has over 100 dogs, and the average adoption fee is $150 each.
Nnadi said that it gave him extra motivation to play hard and win the game. So when he won, the two celebrations were the perfect ending of the season.
Tori Fugate, KC Pet Project chief communications officer, thanked Nnadi’s incredible support and dedication to help the dogs.
According to the KC Pet Project’s website, they have cared for over 10,000 animals per year. So if you’re looking for a dog to adopt, their shelter is open for applications.
