The video footage showed the puppy sitting at the office entrance before the leopard pounced on it, attempting to grab its prey and dash off. But, mum was not having it! She quickly lept into action and chases the big cat away into the forest.
Divisional forest officer Mrityunjay Madhav said, “The dog and its puppy were sitting in front of the office entrance when the leopard attacked the puppy all of a sudden.”
According to Mr Madhav, the mummy dog pounced on the leopard to rescue her pup from its jaws. It seems like mum gave the perpetrator a good bite, causing it to run at the speed of lightning into the woods.

Mr Madhav also reports receiving information about a wounded leopard seen roaming about in the area. Other forest departments were alerted concerning the incident.
Residents were also warned and advised not to go out of their houses, especially at night, to avoid becoming victims of the leopard’s attack. They were instructed to carry their sticks around if they must go out, to fight the big cat off.
There was a fire recently in the forest, which forced wildlife out of the jungle into the humans’ space. As a result, a 60-year-old man in Bengaluru, southern India, was attacked by a leopard a few weeks earlier, after pushing his unlocked door open.
