Scott Poore is the founder of Mission Driven, a clothing line that helps dogs in shelters. He recently became Queen’s hero.
Queen, a three-year-old terrier mix, has spent more than 400 days at the Great Plains Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Before living in the shelter, she spent her days in one of Kansas City, Missouri’s toughest neighborhoods where she would scour dumpsters for food.
The shelter officials intended to find a home for Queen as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this did not happen. The staff attempted many ways to help Queen find a family, but none were successful.
When Scott learned about Queen’s plight, he contacted the shelter to offer assistance. He believed that he had to do something crazy to attract people’s attention so they would notice Queen. Then he thought of an idea – living in the kennel with the dog.
Scott proposed the idea to the employees. They believed that despite the idea being a crazy one, it might work.
The man moved into Queen’s kennel one Tuesday. He put up his desk and chair and made the place appear somewhat homey. Since then, Queen has received considerable attention.
Scott describes Queen as a dog of the people. According to him, Queen likes the companionship of humans to that of other animals, which is why she was delighted to have him around. With him there, she was able to start playing with a tennis ball and even tug-of-war.
Scott had his laptop with him, but he had difficulty working because Queen just wanted to play.
The man stated that he loves the dog and that the shelter is extremely lovely, but he admitted that it wasn’t the nicest place to spend a few days in. Even at night, the dogs kept on barking. This meant that the animals could not enjoy a night’s rest.
The dog was finally adopted after spending eight days in the kennel with Scott. The man is quite proud of his involvement in finding Queen’s forever home. He also hopes that more shelter canines may benefit from this story.
