Having your dog go missing is perhaps one of the worst things a person can go through. But imagine seeing on your Facebook feed that your dog got away and nearly perished. And that is precisely what happened to a man named Jeremy Aller in December.
Together with his mother, Lisa Aller, Jeremy left town for the holidays. Gunner, their Golden Retriever of one year, was left at their home in Celina, Ohio. They had planned for their relatives to visit daily to feed the dog. However, it turned out that they had left the rear door unlocked, and Gunner took advantage of the opportunity to flee.
Perhaps Gunner was so bored without his people around that he decided to go on an expedition. Unfortunately, that dog’s excursion nearly ended in tragedy when Gunner slipped into the icy Grand Lake. Fortunately, Kevin Klosterman was present.
Kevin was photographing the frozen lake with a few buddies when he received a call from his brother. He was informed that a stray dog had fallen into the lake and required rescue. Kevin grew up near Grand Lake, so he was aware that both humans and canines can develop hypothermia within five minutes.
So he quickly donned a life jacket, got a canoe, and began searching for Gunner. The dog was rescued in less than four minutes. Who knows how this story would have concluded if Kevin had been late? This rescue story went viral within hours of being shared on Kevin’s brother’s Facebook group.
Due to the rapid distribution of the video and the tale, the Allers who were on holiday learned about Gunner’s small escapade. Lisa stated in an interview that she was terrified for Gunner and Kevin since she understood that treading on thin ice is perilous. But since Kevin has spent his entire life surrounding Grand Lake, they have nothing to worry about. Gunner is not just Jeremy’s companion, but also his therapy dog. Jeremy expressed his utmost gratitude for Gunner.
