Residents of neighborhoods in and around Jacksonville, Florida are now looking for a small Maltese named Luna. The five-pound pooch belongs to Navy veteran Jose Castellon. Ever since he suffered a brain injury, he has relied on this therapy dog to help him with his regular activities. And now, after getting involved in a traffic accident, Jose has been missing his dog.
The decorated serviceman served his country faithfully when he was still on active duty. He was deployed on several tours and is regarded as a hometown hero. When they learned that he misses his dog so much, everyone is helping to get the runaway pup back to his owner.
Jaws of life
After visiting some relatives in Orlando, Jose and Luna got into an accident on Interstate four. His vehicle flipped and rolled multiple times. The sailor’s car was mangled, but he and his dog survived. When the rescuers got to the site, they had to use a special cutting tool, called the Jaws of Life, to help get him out of his vehicle.
Jose was unconscious when they were getting him out, but he woke up briefly when he was being loaded inside an ambulance. On the other hand, Luna ran away as soon as she was freed from the vehicle. No one noticed this as they were focused on the veteran at that time.
Finding Luna
Jose doesn’t remember much about the accident. After his treatment, he kept asking about his dog. The long-time sailor was more concerned about his dog’s safety and return rather than his own condition. He made a plea online for help finding his beloved pet.
With the assistance of the local animal shelter and several rescue organizations, the word got spread around, and everyone was asked to be on the lookout for Luna. Her picture has been shared multiple times, and people are actively looking for her.
Jose is still in the hospital, and his friends and family fear that the stress of losing Luna may hamper his progress. They hope that the dog will soon be found and her presence will help her owner heal.
