Good deeds are truly rewarding; whether done to humans or animals. That is what happened to a family from Des Moines, Iowa. Truck driver Isaac Fuller was going about his business; when he saw a Chihuahua and whippet mix dog at a roadside.
The little pup was about a year old, dumped at the roadside with nowhere to go. Isaac picked him up and took him home to his wife Angela and children, who welcomed the pup with open hands. They provided him with shelter, food, water and above all, love. They named him Capone.
Capone Well Loved By The Children

Being part of the family, Capone loved everyone as much as they loved him. On the 15th March, at about 1.30 am, a fire broke out in the family home where nine children were sleeping. Capone raised the alarm by barking frantically.
Angela told him to shut up as he was going to wake up the baby, but Capone would not listen. She tried calling him to come to her as she usually does, yet again, the dog refused to respond but kept barking ever so loudly.
A Hero In The Making

It was then that Angela knew something was terribly wrong! She immediately followed the dog into the kitchen, only to discover, there was a fire on the microwave plug. Although the fire was not that big yet, she did not attempt to put it out with water but ran to wake up everyone for an immediate evacuation of the building.
The Mum of nine picked up her 5-month-old baby, 20-months-old son Mordecai, and called out her 12-year-old son, Landon to help with bringing out the rest of the kids.
As they exited the house not forgetting Capone, the smoke detector went off, and by that time, tongues of fire were already licking up the ceiling. Capone’s two minutes barking before the fire alarm went off, gave everyone enough time to get out of the house safely.
The family lost everything they owned but escaped with their lives, credit to Capone. They stayed in a hotel for a short period while waiting for alternative accommodation and received donations for clothes and other necessities.

Unfortunately, Capone could not stay with the family due to the hotel restrictions. He was very upset about the temporary separation and would not eat for three days. The Fullers have bought a five-bedroom house with a fenced, spacious yard where Capone and the kids can run freely.
When he finally got reunited with his family, Capone was the happiest dog ever and got even more attached to the baby, and wouldn’t leave his site at any time.

Angela registered Capone for the American Humane Hero Dog Awards for his heroic act. But, whether he wins or not, he is already a winner in the eyes of his human family. She is grateful they found such a loving pooch at the highway and believes it was meant to be.
