Grieving Dog Attends Owner’s Funeral And Drove Everyone to Tears

Grieving Dog Attends Owner’s Funeral And Drove Everyone to Tears

Milly Jones July 2, 2020

The kind of love that exists between dogs and their owners is one that is hard to explain. No wonder, the saying goes, “Dog is man’s best friend.”

Others compare the pain a dog owner goes through as that of the loss of a child. But, have you ever wondered what dogs experience after the loss of their owners? Humans can prepare themselves for the loss of their dogs, but it is not easy to prepare our dogs for when we pass on.

Being part of the family, dogs do go through emotions, too when their owners die.

Meet Sadie, a 13-months old, Border Collie/Dalmatian Shepherd mix, who lost one of her owners. She was adopted by the Beaulieu family at 8-weeks old and had grown very fond of them.

Sadie and Julia’s husband, Andy, were very close, and they shared wonderful times. However, Andy suffered a heart attack and passed away.

When Andy suffered cardiac arrest, Sadie tried to comfort him by putting her head on his hand and tried to nuzzle him as they waited for the paramedics. Unfortunately, the paramedics failed to save Andy’s life, but Sadie was not aware of that.

She kept waiting at the window for Andy to come back to her for days, refusing to sleep alone and would not eat for ten days. She lost 10lbs in weight.

To help Sadie come to terms with their loss, Julia arranged for her to attend her husband’s funeral.

Sadie went and stood near the casket on her hind legs, holding the side of the coffin and looked at Andy lying there. She displayed the kind of emotions humans show.

Sadie’s act of love for her owner brought tears to everyone’s eyes in the church. It also goes to show that animals do feel emotions when they lose someone so dear to them, just like humans do.

According to Julia, Sadie relaxed a bit and left the church. When she got back home, she ate two meals worth of food and soon went back to her routine.

Thanks to the funeral home CEO, who kindly captured the moment on camera, when Sadie and Julia were paying tributes to their loved one.
