Dogs are one of the most unbeatable companions one can ever have! They would do anything to protect their owners from life-threatening situations and beyond.
This is a real and unique life story of a German Shepherd dog called, Drew Zach and a little girl, Svetlana. They were both born on the same day, but Drew Zach was given as a gift to Svetlana’s parents by her uncle when she was born.
Inseparable Friends.
They became best of friends and were inseparable, as termed by the villagers; and did everything together as well as went places together. They lived in a small village of 50 houses in Russia’s central regions, surrounded by thick forest for hundreds of miles, with a nearby river.

One summer day, something unexpected happened! The little girl vanished and didn’t return home. No one noticed at first as the parents were quite busy attending to their visitors from town that morning. The dog was chained.
Where Is The Little Girl?
Realising that the girl had gone missing late afternoon, the parents quickly rushed to the forest to look for her, but to no avail. No one saw her but an 80-year-old lady gave them some hope that she saw a little girl picking berries that morning, but she was not 100 percent sure.
The night fell, and it started raining. Therefore they had to call off the search and go back home. People went to their houses, but the girl’s parents were crying, and Drew Zach was whining.
They couldn’t go to the forest at night as there were only three lanterns in the village. However, early the following morning, everyone except the elderly and young children went to the forest to search for Sveta.
They were thirty in number, with the dog accompanying them. But, the dog quickly ran off into the woods and disappeared. The rain continued pouring and the search took several days without success.
What a hero!
On returning home, the people saw the dog and the girl lying near her house to their astonishment! Thankfully, she was alive but very weak. However, the dog was dead due to a poisonous viper’s bite.

Before his death, the German Shepherd had dragged little Sveta back home. She had suffered insect bites, and her hands, severely swollen. The dog saw and tried to lick her but couldn’t because he had no more strength left.
The dog died knowing that the girl was safe.
Sveta was taken to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, people were amazed and shocked by the dog’s human deed. They cried, and the whole village wept. Drew Zach was laid to rest in the countryside near the birch tree. Sveta lost a dear friend, which made her so sad and very quiet.
She frequently visited that birch tree but, as she grew older, she moved to the city. Whenever she visits the village, Svetlana goes to her friend first and gently strokes the boulder of the grave and tells Drew Zach what’s happening in her life.
