With fireworks that shoot into the sky from backyards to cities alike, the Fourth of July ushers in the height of summer.
The American Kennel Club reports that even though the holiday is frequently vibrant and exhilarating, it can also be quite noisy and terrifying for dogs across the nation, making it the weekend when more pets go missing than at any other time of the year.
Dogs frequently experience noise fear, and fireworks are often a significant trigger. They go into survival mode when they hear fireworks, says Kitty Block, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States.
Dogs may become anxious as a result, and even “dogs believed to be fairly laid-back” may flee from their owners and wreck their houses.
Loud Noise
1. Get your dog familiar with the noises of explosions to keep them calm. Take your time, don’t rush anything. You can play a fireworks video on YouTube to link pleasant things with fireworks while interacting with your dog.
Turning on a loud fan or some music, radio or television can create a sense of serenity and drown out the noise.
Security
2. Provide your dog with a safe and secure place to go. These options include placing their bed against an interior wall with the blinds pulled or using their box.
3. While the fireworks are going off, put a cotton ball in their ears – but don’t forget to remove them afterwards!
Stay With Your Dog
4. To offer your pet a sense of security, stay with them or ask a family member or friend to dog sit for the day. The human companionship of being with them will make your dog happy.
Staying at home is perhaps the least exciting option for you, but it will probably work the best to keep your dog peaceful.

Potty Time
5. Take your dog outside on a leash whenever it needs to go potty so that they are not left alone and cannot flee when they hear fireworks.
Music & Treats
6. Engage in some fetch with them, play some soothing music, and give them treats as a reward. Any tasty, long-lasting reward your pet likes is fantastic because using treats helps to divert your dog’s attention.
An excellent, time-consuming snack is a rawhide bone or a KONG dog toy with frozen peanut butter inside. You might also try some of the many dog puzzle toys available.
7. Keep them far away from the fireworks display. Very important!

Anti-anxiety Shirt
8. An Anxiety Jacket is a vest that fits around your dog’s torso and gives them a sense of security. There are many brands of anxiety jackets you can buy, or you may make your own at home with an “All Cotton Bandage (ACE).
Anti-anxiety herbal supplements and drugs
9. There are various over-the-counter herbal choices to soothe your agitated pets. Ask your veterinarian for their advice. In extreme circumstances, your veterinarian might advise a prescription drug, but this is often saved for exceptional circumstances and used as a last choice.
