The Cleveland National Forest in San Diego, California is home to many wild animals, such as bobcats and bears. But one woman unexpectedly found a critter that certainly did not belong there. At first, the woman thought that it was a wild animal. But when she got a closer look, she realized that it was actually a dog.
Find out what she did after her discovery.
The dog in the forest
The dog in question was found sitting at the end of a dirt road. She tried to hide behind the slope of the unpaved path so that the woman who saw her wouldn’t reach her.
The woman knew that she had to do something to save the sweet dog. She created a makeshift feeding station near the pooch, hoping that this would draw her out of her hiding place. The plan worked, and the dog came out to eat. Once the pooch was done eating, the woman took the food away to keep predators at bay. The woman sought the help of an animal rescuer named Suzette Hall.
Hall responded to the woman’s call. She went to the forest and placed a trap near the makeshift feeding station. With this, she was eventually able to capture the animal.
The dog’s got a home now
Hall named the dog Trekker and took her to the local animal shelter. The staff members at the said facility scanned the pooch for a microchip and discovered that she had been adopted just four days before the woman saw her.
The shelter contacted the Trekker’s owners, hoping to reunite her with them. Unfortunately, the owners decided to surrender the dog to the shelter. As such, the shelter released the puppy to Hall, so she could find him a foster home. Luckily, a foster family accepted Trekker.
Eventually, Trekker found her forever home. She loves playing, cuddling, and going on hikes with her new family. It seems that she had already forgotten her past.
