Stray dogs live a difficult life. These dogs have to rely on themselves to look for food and a place to sleep. They also have to protect themselves from threats, which makes them cautious around people and other dogs. This is usually the reason why some of these dogs have difficulty adjusting when they get adopted or when they get rescued and housed in an animal shelter.
It’s a life-changing moment for any shelter dog to get adopted. However, it doesn’t mean that they could instantly adjust to their new life as a part of a family. Their previous life as stray dogs will leave a mark on them and this can affect how they behave.
An adorable Chihuahua named Kai was rescued as a stray. Kai was cautious around humans and was very aggressive with other dogs. He had trouble getting adopted because of his behavior since aggressive dogs can be problematic. However, Kai’s life changed when a man named Lee Asher decided to give him a second chance.
Lee is a well-known animal rescuer who also fosters and adopts rescue dogs. He has videos on YouTube mostly featuring his life with his dogs as well as the dogs he fosters and adopts. When Lee decided to adopt Kai, he wasn’t worried about his behavior. Lee knew that Kai was just acting aggressive because he was scared.
Lee had a feeling that Kai would eventually come around and realize that he was going to be okay. And, he was right. After spending a few days in Lee’s home, Kai finally realized that he’s safe. He met Lee’s other dogs and became friends with all of them. Kai showed Lee that he’s not the violent dog that he was portrayed to be.
Thanks to Lee’s love and patience, Kai changed into a loving dog who just wanted to spend the entire day playing with other dogs and cuddling with his new dad. Here’s a video featuring Kai’s story.
