The bond between Kaleb Benham and his pit bull Buddy is unbreakable.
Last Thanksgiving Eve, Kaleb and Buddy played together near their home like they always do. Buddy ran away from Kaleb’s sight and Kaleb suddenly heard a loud growl in the distance. He ran towards the sound to investigate and saw a massive black bear dragging Buddy away.
The bear’s jaws were already around Buddy’s head and Kaleb had only moments to react. Right then and there, he decided to save his beloved best friend. He tackled the black bear and scared it off by grabbing it by the throat and punching it in the head. Fortunately, the black bear let go and Kaleb was able to rescue Buddy.buddy

Kaleb rescues his pit bull from the black bear
According to Kaleb, the only thing he could think of at that moment was to save his baby. He told reporters after the incident that Buddy was just like his kid. He would die for Buddy in the same way that a lot of people would die for their children.
Kaleb displayed incredible bravery by saving Buddy, but he still had a problem. He needed to get Buddy to a veterinary hospital immediately.
Treating Buddy at the veterinary hospital
Kaleb rushed Buddy to the nearest veterinary hospital. Unfortunately, they could not treat Buddy. According to Kaleb, his first thought was that he might lose Buddy. Fortunately, Kaleb eventually reached Mother Lode Veterinary Hospital in Grass Valley California.
Kaleb waited for more than 3 hours as the vets treated Buddy. The vets even had to stitch Buddy up and staple his ears back on. The bear injured Buddy a lot but according to the hospital, they expect him to make a full recovery.
Kaleb rescued Buddy from a shelter a few years ago and he didn’t hesitate to rescue Buddy again, this time from a 350-pound black bear. Kaleb says that he still hears the bear prowling near his home from time to time. Hopefully, he will find a long-term solution and scare away the black bear for good.
