Most stray dogs are cautious of humans because of the negative experiences they had with humans before. Because of their unkempt appearance, humans generally think that stray dogs harbor diseases that can be harmful to their dogs. For this reason, humans tend to shoo them away or, worse, hit them.
However, not all people are terrible with stray dogs. A man named Theoklitos Proestakis is known all over the world for his compassion and determination to rescue stray dogs and abused dogs. Theoklotos Proestakis is the founder of an animal rescue organization in Greece called Takis Shelter.
Although Theoklitos rescues all types of animals, he concentrates on rescuing stray dogs and even abused dogs. Theoklitos is fearless that he would even confront owners of abused dogs and take the dogs with him back to his sanctuary. All the dogs at Takis Shelter get the best care, and a lot of dogs living here are adopted into loving forever homes.
One of Theoklitos’s most memorable rescues was with a sick, stray labrador retriever that he found living inside an abandoned shed. Nobody knows how long the dog had been there for, but Theoklitos saw that the dog was so sick that, it couldn’t move.
Despite being a stray, the labrador was still happy to see Theoklitos as if she knew, she was going to be rescued. When Theoklitos went near the her, she started wagging her tail and gave a little cry when Theoklitos stroked her head. Theoklitos brought the labrador back to the veterinarian to get treated.
Theoklitos eventually named the Labrador Luna. After Luna got treated at the veterinarian, Theoklitos took her back to his sanctuary, where she was going to have her life changed. Theoklitos made sure that Luna is comfortable in her new home that she’s well-fed.
Even after a few days, Luna looked a lot better than when she was found. Theoklitos documented her recovery, and Luna became so happy to be finally in a forever home. Luna continued her therapy, and she’s finally able to walk and run with the other dogs.
Thanks to Theoklitos, Luna became stronger and was ready to find her forever home. She was eventually adopted by a loving family in Germany, where she is sure, she will never be abandoned again. Theoklitos continues to rescue stray dogs around Greece and give them a second chance to find their loving forever homes.
Luna is just one of the many examples of the dogs that Theoklitos and Takis Shelter saved. The work that Theoklitos does may not change the world, but it does make a difference in the lives of stray dogs.
