Mickey’s remarkable metamorphosis from a super thin canine to an energetic pooch demonstrates the transformative power of a genuine and caring environment.
Mickey was neglected in his previous home on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao. He was just left on his own to starve to death by his callous owners.
A concerned neighbor learned about Mickey’s plight and contacted Feed Friends Foundation to arrange for his rescue. Feed Friends Foundation is a group in Curacao that aims to feed and help stray dogs.
According to the anonymous neighbor, Mickey’s owners were about to abandon him due to his health. The dog was sick and frail as a result of his owners’ mistreatment. Apart from his frailty, Mickey also suffered from a severe skin infection.
The rescue squad moved quickly to the location of the dog. They soon discovered Mickey bound to a car bumper, without any food or drink around. The dog was munching on a coconut, his only source of nourishment.
When Mickey noticed the rescuers, he exhibited panic and attempted to flee. However, as soon as he understood the rescuers were there to assist him, he began wagging his tail, showing his acceptance of the presence of the rescuers. Later, the rescuers were able to secure Mickey and took him to the veterinarian for a checkup.
Mickey does not appear to have any severe health problems, except for obvious malnutrition caused by hunger and his skin illness. The vet who checked up on the dog said that Mickey should be given time, medical care, and a loving environment to recover.
Following the visit to the veterinarian, the six-month-old puppy was placed with a foster family, who took excellent care of him and demonstrated how a dog should be treated.
Several months later, Mickey showed significant improvement in his health and disposition, demonstrating that when a dog is given a second shot at life in a loving and caring home, he will simply live happily as he should.
