Millie, the German Shepherd rescue dog, is an excellent example of how one’s difficult start in life doesn’t define what they become in the future.
Millie did not allow her hard start in life hinder her from bringing joy to Psychiatric Ward patients, in Leicester. She won an award for her hard work at the Institute. What a Star!
Millie’s owner, Kim Gilder, said that she had been visiting the ward for many years and is a valued friend to the mental health sufferers.
Regardless of what Millie went through, she is a very trusted friend to the people going through mental health problems and is in high demand as a therapy dog.
‘This amazing dog provides comfort, companionship and alleviates loneliness. Millie is excited with making contact, builds confidence and trust where patients lack them or have problems dealing with people.’

Millie was caged for the first seven months of her life and was so underweight that she could not stand when she got rescued.
She now works with Charities as a volunteer spreading love, cuddles and comfort to care home residents and special needs school children all over the Country.
At age nine years, Millie won the best rescue dog award at a talent show.
The event organiser Barrie Stephen stated, “Dogs like Millie are sadly being rescued from horrible situations all the time.”
“Every dog deserves a second chance when let down by their human owners.”
Although Millie’s recovery has been slow, she has provided exceptional service as a therapy dog at the mental Health Ward. She deserves to be the winner.
