We have heard several inspiring stories of how dogs can help save people. But, in the story of a dog named Hammy, it was him who needed rescuing.
The dog roamed the sides of EDSA, a bustling roadway in the Philippines that has a record of around 400K traversing vehicles daily.
Thankfully, a concerned citizen named Marnie Aguilar noticed Hammy. According to Aguilar, Hammy already looked so scared and was cowering. She also felt afraid because the buses traversing the area were fast. Her concern was that Hammy might get surprised by the loud car horns and cross the busy road by mistake.

Aguilar asked the help of fire volunteers near the vicinity at that time. She also posted photos of Hammy on social media to look for his owner. Several people shared her post, and it went viral.
George Rendon Jr, one of the fire volunteers, shared that by 10 pm on the same day, he had already received around 100 calls from different people claiming to be Hammy’s owner. But, his team told the callers to provide proof of ownership like photos with the dog to make sure that Hammy would find his true family.
Fortunately, they received a call from Juliet Aves, and she was able to provide videos and photos of Hammy. So, the fire volunteers decided to bring Hammy to her. While they were going to Aves’ location, they noticed that Hammy seemed to be excited. And, when they finally met Aves, the dog ran towards her, which helped confirm that she was indeed Hammy’s owner.

Aves was so glad to have Hammy back finally. According to her, they got so worried when they could not find him outside of their house. She was grateful that she saw him on the viral post and that the fire volunteers rescued Hammy.

Hammy is like her own child to Aves, so she was relieved that he got home safely. She gave donations to the fire volunteers’ organization to thank them.
