Animal rescue groups in Tampa City in Florida have their fair share of dog rescue experiences. One of the most unforgettable is the story of Larry, a poor Pitbull given a second chance to be happy again. His story warmed the hearts of many and inspired a lot of people to treat animals better!
It all happened one hot afternoon in Tampa – rescuers received a report of a poor dog tied to a basketball hoop. Concerned citizens said the dog has been left there for days. The volunteers quickly responded and went to the area to meet the said dog. They found the scared fellow shaking from fear. Looking confused, the dog cried as the rescuers approached him. One of the volunteers assumed the display of emotions was because the dog was expecting to see his owner, not some strangers.

The volunteers decided to name the Pitbull Larry Bird. They brought him back with them to the shelter and tried to locate the abandoned dog’s owner. Finding his owner proves to be a challenging feat for Larry does not have a collar nor a microchip. A few days passed, no one came to claim the sad dog.
The volunteers decided to arrange Larry’s adoption process. They transferred him to the Hillsborough County Animal Shelter where families frequently visit to adopt rescued animals. Larry’s sad demeanor made it difficult for him to catch the attention of visitors. He would often sleep and hide under his bed most days.

One of the shelter workers, Autumn Phillips Perry, brought their search for Larry’s new family on Facebook. In her now-viral post, Autumn’s caption described Larry as a sweet Pitbull who hates loud noises. She posted it right along with a photo of Larry inside the isolation kennel.
Because of Autumn’s Facebook post, the Hillsborough County Animal Shelter received tons of adoption applications for the PitBull! After screening all the interested parties, the volunteers finally found the perfect fur parent for Larry! Now, the once depressed Pit Bull has all the reasons to enjoy sleeping on a new bed, in a new loving home.
