The Texas-based volunteer rescue organization Final Frontier Rescue Project rescued Nellie from a California animal shelter when she was barely one year old. This rescue organization was also responsible for introducing the pit bull to her foster mother, Jane Taylor, six months ago.
Before Nellie was under Taylor’s care, she bounced from kennel to kennel for years. So, when she arrived at her new residence, everything frightened her.
She resisted when people attempted to pet her and she was also possessive of her toys. However, with Taylor’s assistance, Nellie began to warm up.
Taylor understood a few weeks ago that Nellie had not only begun to warm up. She has also matured into a courageous puppy as she rescued the life of her foster mother.
This unexpected demonstration of love and bravery was astounding!
Taylor and Nellie climbed a large granite dome on foot. As they slowly made their way back to their vehicle, they opted to traverse a region that was typically avoided.
Taylor then heard the sound of a snake. She halted and began screaming prior to seeing the snake.
Nellie swiftly rushed to Taylor’s defense before he could even take a step. In a matter of seconds, Nellie’s face was bitten.
A hiking companion draped his jacket over the snake to conceal it. Then, he removed it from the unfortunate dog’s grasp.
Nellie was unable to move, so they had to carry her down the mountain. Taylor reported that Nellie did not cry out in agony, but she could sense she was in distress.
Nellie’s mouth was wide open, her eyes were closed, and her head was inclined backward. She was aware that Nellie required immediate assistance.
Nellie received two vials of antibiotics and anti-venom at the veterinarian, where they arrived just in time. Within two days, Nellie has fully recovered and is back to chasing squirrels. She is quite resilient.
The previously fearful pit bull has become a courageous dog. Nellie now likes her life and is no longer fearful of people or other dogs.
She is also no longer as possessive of her toys. Indeed, Nellie is eager to locate her forever home.
