Dognapping is one of the most heinous types of animal crime, second only to animal cruelty. And this story is about a dognapping that was captured on video in Texas.
A thief reached down a yard’s fence and grabbed the collar of a young mastiff bulldog. He then walked over to a car and drove away. As the young dog was taken away, an adult mastiff was seen frantically barking.
The stolen puppy’s owner is a Dallas firefighter named Matt Ivy, who is also a mastiff breeder. Matt went into a state of panic when he couldn’t locate the dog in his yard.
When he checked the security video, he discovered what had occurred. He was enraged. Any dog owner would be totally angry at the sight of his or her dog being stolen.
Mesquite, Texas is where Matt’s property is located and it is regarded as fairly rural. The criminals may have believed that they could get away unseen due to the location’s conditions, but they never considered the possibility of a surveillance camera. What the thief didn’t know was that everything was captured by the camera.
Based on the reports, Chipper the puppy was transported to an auto shop named Omar’s Wheels and Tires. Chipper was sold there for $300.
A mastiff is actually priced at around $3,000. So to sell the puppy for just $300 shows just how readily they were to sell the dog.
But the story did not end on a sad note. Chipper has returned to his rightful home.
The mechanic who purchased the puppy feared he had purchased a stolen puppy, and did his research. He was then able to successfully get in contact with Matt and they set up a meeting.
Chipper has then been reunited with his proper owner, and everyone is happy once more. We can see the puppy napping peacefully in Matt’s arms after it has endured a harrowing ordeal.
