Charlie, seven years, and Theo, fifteen months old, were taken out for a walk in the hills by Liz and Graham Hampson’s son, John when the unthinkable happened.
The weather condition changed, and the hills became very foggy. John lost site of the two dogs as they disappeared into the thick fog without a trace. He called his Mum straight away to let her know of what had happened to their precious canine friends.

Liz and Graham Hampson, launched a rescue campaign by calling in the Mountain Rescue Team, family and friends. The search took place on top of the Red Pike fell near Buttermere, Cumbria and the surrounding areas.
Up to 120 people were involved, and the search lasted four days, with no results. It Was tough for Liz and Graham to take as they thought, they were never going to see their dogs again. Despite the efforts made, there were no signs of the two.
Finally, they came up with the idea of having a barbecue in the area where the two dogs were last seen, to try and lure them. It worked wonders! The smoky, mouth-watering aroma of sizzling sausages got them scampering back to the barbecue place.

Their owners said that they always treated them to sausages every Sunday morning for breakfast, as it is their favourite meat and they absolutely love them. To their amazement, the dogs appeared on top of hills, and Graham wasted no time but ran to get them!

Mum, Liz admits that, when she saw them, ‘she was shaking and crying and could not function.’
The two dogs are actually father and son. Their owner jokes that they had a father’s day weekend.

Their son John works in the Navy, and when they called to tell him the good news, a big cheer went up in the Navy Ship. The family is extremely grateful for the overwhelming support they received from everyone who gave up their time to search for their beloved pooches.
