In a small village located in the province of Gangwon in South Korea, a small dog suddenly appeared. Locals had no idea who he belonged to, but they knew someone purposely left him there. After all, a lot of people dump their unwanted pets in that area.
The poor dog sat in the middle of a three-intersection road day in and out. He watched as people passed by and he made sure to see their faces. But that wasn’t the only thing odd about him. He chased after white cars and trucks that passed by.

There weren’t too many people living in the said village, hence, most of them knew one another. There weren’t a lot of visitors either.
And because it was in a mountainous part, only a few vehicles passed by.
Since the day the dog arrived, he spent his entire day sitting in the middle of the street. He was a keen observer, and every time a white truck or car passed by, he ran after it. But after a short while, he ran back to the same spot and glued himself to the ground.

Three weeks out and a resident with a kind heart could no longer watch the dog suffering. He reached out to the local rescuers to see what can be done, and a few volunteers immediately agreed to help. They watched the dog so they could see how he’d behave if he was forced to stay inside the man’s house.
For the first few minutes, the dog seemed ok to be in a completely different environment. But soon enough, he started tapping on the door. And the moment it opened, he ran back to his spot and did what he usually does.
The responders also discovered that after a long and tiring day, the dog walks into a cattle pen and finds himself a warm enough spot to sleep. Often, he buried himself in a pile of old plastic sheets so he wouldn’t be too cold. And come morning, he was back to his routine.

The dog was physically fit but his mental state wasn’t that good. He needed to accept that his owner was long gone. And so, the vets suggested that it would be best if a local would open his home to him.
What the dog experienced was devastating. But thankfully, the kind man who looked after him offered him a home and gave him a new name, Ba-duk.
