Obesity for dogs is just as dangerous as being malnourished. Such a condition carries health risks and is indicative of neglect or abuse. Fortunately, there’s a family who has dedicated themselves to helping obese dogs recover. Below is a retelling of their recent rescue story.
One hot summer day, an overweight beagle named Wolfgang was found in Phoenix, Arizona. No stray dog can turn obese all on its own. This means that a previous owner dumped him there instead of fixing his weight issue.
Beagles are only supposed to be around 25 to 30 pounds. Wolfgang far surpassed that range, being 90 pounds. Despite weighing so much, he still showed great enthusiasm. He loved moving around even when he was uncomfortable.

Wolfgang was adopted by a couple who prepared a healthy meal for him every day. They tracked his calorie intake consistently. Aside from the proper diet, Wolfgang was subjected to long walks as his form of regular exercise.
During his weight loss journey, Wolfgang always observed her owner’s doggy door. He was waiting for the day when he could finally fit through it. Eventually, that day came when he went down to 57 pounds.
Wolfgang had an adorable obsession with stuffed toys. He would always carry one in his mouth while he was exercising. It’s like his personal workout buddy.

Wolgang’s owner, Erin, noticed a lot of subtle changes during his weight loss journey. She saw how the dog’s tail became more exposed as he lost fat on his bottom. She also noticed how livelier he got as he slowly regained his mobility.
Throughout Wolfgang’s weight loss days, he remained a happy-go-lucky dog. His personality didn’t change drastically. Rather he was just able to express himself more easily because of his improved mobility. For example, he could do zoomies for extended periods.
