Oscar is a two-year-old Chihuahua that had a heartbreaking story. He didn’t have a great start in life, but thankfully, everything turned out well.
It all started when his owner wanted to get rid of him by locking him up in a small cage and throwing him inside a dumpster. Fortunately, the cage broke, and he was able to crawl out.
A person walking near that bin in Des Moines, Iowa, saw the dog emerge. The kind human then called for help.
Skinny pup
Rescuers promptly retrieved the pooch then took him to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. The vets that saw him said that the tiny pup looked pitiful when he was brought in. It surely was clearly evident that the dog was neglected as he was very skinny and had an infestation of intestinal parasites. His short fur was covered with filth and severely matted.
He needed food so much that they had to introduce his meals gradually. But even with the small yet regular feeding, he seemed to have increased in weight tremendously.
Oscar needed constant care, and it seemed that he would benefit more from having a foster home rather than staying in the shelter. That is when Tina Updegrove stepped in.
Foster fail
Tina is an Animal Control Officer that works with the shelter. She was there when Oscar was brought in. She felt sad for the pooch and offered to foster him. She wanted to help the small pup recover and then return him to the shelter.
That plan didn’t go exactly the way she thought. That same night that Oscar was brought to their home, the adorable dog captured the hearts of Tina and her husband.
According to Tina, she and her husband owned a pit bull before. But because of his old age, they had to put him to sleep. One of the things that their former dog did was sing whenever Tina’s husband played with his harmonica. They were surprised when Oscar did the same thing.
The couple looked at each other when Oscar started singing along with the harmonica. Right there and then, they decided to adopt him.
Oscar has now fully recovered and is living a happy life in his new forever home.
