Two Terminally Ill Dogs, Cross Off Bucket Wish Lists Together

Two Terminally Ill Dogs, Cross Off Bucket Wish Lists Together

Milly Jones July 1, 2021

When suffering from a terminally ill condition and the doctors break the news, you have only a couple of months to live, it is devastating! What about our pets? They may not know what everyone is discussing, but they still go through pain and uncertainty.

Two amazing dogs, Harley Bruiser, a 10-year-old bulldog, and Buckeye, a 15-year-old golden retriever, are diagnosed with terminal illnesses and have been given only 4-6 months to live. The great news is, they have each other and loving families to support them.

Recently, Harley was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma and Buckeye, Cholangiocellular Carcinoma, says WTOV9. The two dogs met after receiving the bad news and quickly formed an incredible bond. They engage in endless partying the next few months, crossing off memorable times from their bucket lists with their owners’ assistants.

The two friends have enjoyed a day of shopping spree at a doggie boutique. They have had lots of treats and snuggles so far, with even more plans ahead.

Buckeye’s owner, Grace Kemp, who is also a veterinarian, said to WTOV9, “I think it’s essential to try to keep giving your pet the best quality of life till the very end.” Kemp and her family adopted Buckeye from a rescue centre at a very young age and raised him as a loving member of the family. They have always been there for him.

Kemp takes the golden retriever to work at Goodworks Veterinary Hospital in Ohio, all the time, setting examples of how good quality care of a senior dog can boost their emotional and physical wellbeing.

Although Harley is nearing the end of his life journey as predicted by his vet, he has made good use of the past few months. After caring for his family for years, the bulldog is getting what he deserves, by being spoiled more than usual.

Harley’s owner, Ashley McElfresh, told WTOV9, “He’s got to ride in the back of our vehicles with us into town, skateboard down the road, I mean, anything a dog could ever want to do.”

McElfresh has documented all of Harley’s adorable bucket list moments via the Facebook group “Bucket List Adventures of Harley Bruiser.”  Harley’s recent adventures were a sunset drive, making art and riding on a real Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Buckeye frequently appears on his best friend’s Facebook page as they support each other to make their dreams come true, before saying farewell to their lovely families.
