Nina, an independent rescuer from Moscow, Russia, was still sound asleep when she received a call. It was only five in the morning and the person on the other line sounded panicked. He told her that he and his neighbors heard squeals of baby animals in the middle of the grassland next to the pond and they needed help finding them.
Without hesitations, the rescuer hopped out of her bed and quickly responded. She rushed to the location given by the caller and immediately went to work once she arrived. With the help of the man and a few other volunteers, they searched the entire land as quickly as they could.

Within a few minutes, the rescuer found a white burlap sack sitting on dirt. That’s where the cries of distress came from. She opened it, and to her astonishment, there were three puppies inside.
Nina checked the little ones, but sadly, it was too late. Two of the three puppies were already dead and the surviving one was in a terrible state. Hoping she’d still be able to save her, she gently scooped her up and rushed her to the nearest emergency animal clinic in town.

The rescuer drove fast to make it to the clinic at the soonest possible time. While on their way, she made sure to keep an eye on the puppy she named Eva later on. She spoke words of encouragement to her and kept her comfortable and warm.
At the vet’s office, Eva received emergency medical care. Dehydrated, starved, and injured, it was a miracle that she survived, and everyone was glad that she did. The doctors hooked her to an IV for fluid infusion and treated her wounds to keep them from getting infected.

Eva refused to eat or drink for the first two days. She had to be syringe-fed to make sure she received adequate nutrition. Thankfully, she managed to eat even a little on the third day.
Nina never discovered what exactly happened to Eva, but she believed someone purposely dumped the puppies where she found them. She felt sorry because she wasn’t able to save all three puppies. But she felt relieved that at least one of them pulled through, and she promised to help her find the best home the moment she’s ready to start fresh.
